Science

This Saturday the MagLab will host its annual Open House! This free event features something for visitors of every age: hands-on demonstrations, self-guided tours, activities from our educational partners, food, and the chance to meet and chat with our scientists and other MagLab staff. It’s also a chance to do good for the community: The canned goods we collect as the unofficial price of admission go to America’s Second Harvest Food Bank of the Big Bend.

Open House offers an up-close look at our record-breaking 45-tesla hybrid magnet, our 900-megahertz superconducting magnet and other powerful research instruments. A special Exploration Station features hands-on science fun designed especially for families with young children.

With information and activities targeting a variety of ages, this event has become a popular family outing and is a can’t-miss opportunity to show children how fun science can be. That doesn’t mean the fun and learning are over once our visitors leave. We’ve been busy building up online demonstrations of some of what you’ll see at Open House, so you can extend and apply what you’ve learned long after the day’s over.

2016 OPEN HOUSE
When: Saturday, February 27, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: MagLab, 1800 E. Paul Dirac Drive, Tallahassee
Cost: Free! But please bring a canned good to donate to America’s Second Harvest Food Bank of the Big Bend.

Just a friendly reminder that our test is tomorrow. I’m hoping to begin projects on Thursday of this week! These projects will not be graded. I will take one grade next week on heat and energy and this will close out our grades for this grading period. I have a variety of things planned, and only hope we have time to get to all of it!!!

FFA week next week

Next week is FFA week…..We will be dressing up next week….The homeroom that has the most participation wins a party

Monday…Wear Green
Tuesday…Dress Like a Farmer
Wednesday….Wear Blue or Gold
Thursday…Camouflage Day
Friday…Wear FFA shirt OR a shirt that has something to do with agriculture (remember you possibly have the Georgia Grown shirt that all students received a year or two ago)

Next week we will begin reading Stone Fox, our extended text for the 3rd Nine Weeks. This is a great book that all students love! As in the past, we will not have a written reading or spelling test on this book. Instead, students will be completing work in class that goes along with the text and taking an Accelerated Reader quiz on the book when we have completed it. This book is my favorite chapter book that we read together this year and I am really looking forward to it!
