Students completed a study guide today on the Night Sky. This will go home tomorrow, and we will test Wednesday. These will be the last grades put in for this 9 week period.

From now until Fall Break, we will change from our regular reading group routine. Instead of doing a story from our reading textbooks, I will be reading aloud our extended text (chapter book) for the 1st nine weeks, Amber Brown Is Not A Crayon. We will be reading a chapter book every 9 weeks to help students become accustomed to more complex texts. The students will not have a copy of this book to take home, but we do have a class set for them to follow along as I read aloud each day.
We will not have a spelling or reading test over this book, but we will be completing work that goes along with it each day. Upon completion of the book, students will be encouraged to take an AR test. We will continue with the next story in our textbook, Teacher’s Pets, after Fall Break.
PTO/Open House tonight
Science
Tuesday we will be doing a project on Moon phases. Please have your child observe the moon tonight as well as over the weekend. I am sending notes home with students today requesting some students send in two packages of Oreos for this project. The students really enjoy this project!!! We should be ready to have a test on the Night Sky/Solar System the week of Sept. 26. I will post more details on the blog next week.
School Pictures
The deadline to order fall pictures has been extended. All orders are due by Monday, Sept. 19.

Just a reminder that the reading and spelling tests for Diary of a Spider are this Friday, 9/16. Please have your child read-aloud this story to an adult two times. This improves comprehension and fluency. Also, we are completing studyguides in class that will be sent home Thursday for review.
We are also working on a “Spider Project” in class to go along with the story. Students are learning facts about real spiders and will be completing an informational writing and art display!
