Stewart HR AR

Good afternoon,

I just want to clarify our AR procedures.
First, their AR goal for this 9 weeks is in their yellow AR folder, along with their reading level. Second, our library time to check out new books as a class is on Mondays. Now that the computer lab is open, students are able to rotate AR testing in the computer lab during DEAR time. Please be mindful that we have 22 students, so not everyone can test everyday. Tuesdays are our scheduled days for computer lab for our PE, Music and Lab rotation. If students are ready, they may also use this time to AR test.

Finally, we have 22 students and two library passes, so please impress upon your child the importance of getting their books in a timely manner and returning to class, so that all have ample opportunity. Library books should be checked out during DEAR time unless it is our regularly scheduled time to be in the library (Mondays).

Summary: Monday (library time)
Tuesday: computer lab day
Daily DEAR time (2:55-3:24)

Social Studies

Hello all! I am in need of a parent from Mrs. Fowler and Ms. Maxwell’s home rooms to coordinate the edible cookie project. This project is absolutely dependent on parent participation. I want all students to be able to participate. I need a parent to coordinate the following:
1. 5 oversized cookies or cakes in the shape of Georgia
2. Different candies such as twizzlers, M&Ms, Skittles, frosting, etc ( be creative)
3. Paper products and utensils.

Please comment on this post if you are willing to run with this!

Otherwise, I will have to assign each student the item to bring in.

Thanks so much!

Social Studies edible map project

Good morning!

We are continuing to learn about Where We Live. Next week and the following week we will work on the different regions and rivers in Georgia. I would like to do an end of unit project; however, it will require parent participation from EACH class. I would like to have 4-5 large cookies/cakes in the shape of Georgia. (Parent for each class needed to supply this.) Then we will need several different toppings to be provided for each class for decorations:
twizzlers, frosting, M&Ms, skittles, sprinkles, etc.
plastic forks and knives. (To be provided by different students for each class.)

I would tentatively like to schedule this for August 21.

If there is a “Parent Mom” from each class that would like to handle organizing this for me, I would greatly appreciate it!!!
Please email me with any questions!

Accelerated Reader (AR)

We are doing our best to get AR up and running. We still need to have students’ STAR tests to determine each student’s reading level, which will also help us set their goal for this nine weeks. Each student’s AR folder should be ready by the beginning of next week. This folder will include his/her login information, goal, and AR HomeConnect information. Since AR is an incentive only program and not tied to grades, Second Grade teachers do not keep up with students’ points to date or when each student tests. We encourage students to meet their AR goal, but our priority is classroom instruction. Parents can monitor AR through the HomeConnect portal.

Our computer lab will open August 12, so AR testing prior to this will be sporadic. We have been to the library, so that students may check out books. This encourages everyone to read during DEAR time, which is 3:00-3:20. Please keep in mind that this is at the end of the day and may affect your child’s motivation to read.
